Dlaczego literatura macedońska nie chce być literaturą mniejszą?2018 •
Why does Macedonian literature not want to be a minor literature? The author takes alook at avery interesting and still under-investigated project for creating a Macedonian literature that emerged among the members of what was known as the Macedonian Literary Circle in Sofia 1938–1941, in the context of the concept of “minor literatures” proposed after World War II, in 1975, by Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari. The French researchers’ idea appears as aproposal that could build good solutions for the question of the Macedonian Literary Circle’s project being rooted in the Bulgarian linguistic and cultural context, aquestion that is avoided by both Macedonian and Bulgarian discourse.

Diabetic ketoacidosis and coronavirus disease 2019-associated mucormycosis: a case reportBackground Mucormycosis is a rare, life-threatening fungal infection that affects immunocompromised hosts. Diabetes mellitus is a common predisposing condition and most often presents with rhino-orbital-cerebral infection. Association with coronavirus disease 2019 infection was revealed following a resurgence in cases of mucormycosis during the second wave of the pandemic wherein poorly controlled diabetes mellitus was the most significant risk factor in the affected population. Rhino-orbital-cerebral mucormycosis has a high mortality rate, and cerebral involvement is a poor prognostic factor. Herein, we report a case of newly diagnosed diabetes mellitus with concurrent coronavirus disease 2019 infection complicated by diabetic ketoacidosis and rhinocerebral mucormycosis at presentation, describe the diagnostic and therapeutic challenges, and discuss the interventions that ultimately resulted in a favorable clinical response. Case presentation We describe the case of a previously he...

Towards Earlier Inclusion of Pregnant and Postpartum Women in TB Drug Trials: Consensus Statements from an International Expert Panel2015 •
Tuberculosis (TB) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in women of childbearing age (15 to 44 years). Despite increased TB risk during pregnancy, optimal clinical treatment remains unclear: safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetic data for many TB drugs are lacking, and trials of promising new TB drugs exclude pregnant women. To advance inclusion of pregnant and postpartum women in TB drug trials, the US National Institutes of Health convened an international expert panel. Discussions generated consensus statements (> 75% agreement among panelists) identifying high priority research areas during pregnancy, including: (1) preventing progression of latent TB infection, especially in HIV co-infected women; (2) evaluating new agents/regimens for multi-drug resistant TB treatment; and (3) evaluating safety, tolerability and pharmacokinetics of TB drugs already in use during pregnancy and postpartum. Incorporating pregnant women into clinical trials would extend evidence-based ...
