Globally, every year 600,000 children develop intellectual disabilities secondary to lead exposure [1]. It is estimated that lead accounts for 143,000 deaths every year with more deaths from developing countries [1]. Lead is a widespread and naturally occurring toxic metal. Mining, smelting, leaded paints, leaded gasoline and batteries for motor vehicle are some important sources of lead. In addition, lead is also used in manufacturing of cosmetics like ‘surma/kajal’, which is a common eye cosmetic used in South Asia and Middle East [1].

Usability of patient experience surveys in Australian primary health care: a scoping review2016 •
Monitoring patient experience is essential for stimulating innovation in health care and improving quality and accountability. Internationally, standardised approaches are used to collect patient experience information, but in Australian primary health care (PHC), little is known about which patient experience surveys are used and which aspects of experience they measure. This prevents routine inclusion of patient experience data in quality improvement or system performance measurement. A scoping review was undertaken to identify relevant surveys. Data on survey availability, psychometric properties, target population, method and frequency of administration were extracted. Survey items were mapped against six dimensions of patient experience described internationally. Ninety-five surveys were identified; 34 were developed for use in Australia. Surveys vary in content, size, aspects of experience measured and methods of administration. The quality of data collected and the extent to ...

Removal of phthalates and pharmaceuticals from municipal wastewater by graphene adsorption process2016 •
In this work graphene was used for evaluation of its adsorption behavior and performance in removing phthalate esters and pharmaceuticals in municipal wastewater. Di-n-butyl phthalate (DnBP), di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), acetaminophen (ACE), caffeine (CAF), cephalexin (CLX), and sulfamethoxazole (SMX) were emerging contaminants (ECs) with detection frequencies over 92% in a one-year monitoring of the occurrence of ECs in influent samples of a sewage treatment plant in Taiwan. Thus, these ECs were selected as the target contaminants for removal by graphene adsorption process. Experimental results showed that the adsorption isotherm data were fitted well to Langmuir model equation. It was also found that the adsorption process obeyed the pseudo-second-order kinetics. A graphene dosage of 0.1 g/L and adsorption time of 12 h were found to be the optimal operating conditions for the ECs of concern in model solutions in a preliminary study. By using the determined optimal operating...

This paper aims through a case study to show how the diversified agriculture, that is practiced by rural farms households, could be an alternative answer to the food insecurity problems of these populations, as well as the environment preservation, where it is joined at the adapted food education programs, where possible, to local tastes and customs. For this purpose we carried out a census and interviewed the families who are farmers in study area. These interviews were made by with an eight modules questionnaire. One of them is the Brazilian Food Insecurity Scale which allowed us to know the food insecurity level of these families. Later, we elaborated a database in the software Statistical Package for Social Sciences - SPSS with the questionnaire variables and then started the statistical analysis and the situational diagnosis according to the FODA method (strengths, opportunities, weaknesses and threats) and the interpretation of data to so finally present the survey results. Fi...
