Manual handling of patients: clinical evaluation of some parameters clinical-anamnestic in health care2012 •
Background: The necessity to help hospitalized subjects with reduced or absent walking abilities exposes the workers to the risk of lesions, above all spinal lesions. It is essential therefore to reduce the risk through the introduction of correct procedures and devices as well as health surveillance and training. The Mapo index is a synthetic index to estimate the manual handling of patients assessment and it allows to give a quantitative valuation of risk level of health workers.

One unusual trait of many craft artists is that they will speak of the medium as having chosen them instead of the other way around. Clay, for example, chose me. I am a ceramist committed to working with the vessel as a primary means of expression. Clay chose me through a Japanese tea cup. The rough foot on my fingertips and its undulating and unrefined lip felt very different from the manufactured cup I had used most of my life. The cup spoke to me; it seemed sentient, and I don’t mean this metaphorically. An exchange was at play between my senses and the object in my hand. The cup drew my attention aesthetically, sensually, perceptually, and intellectually. It illustrated the fundamental difference between craft and what we’ve come to know as fine art in the West: craft is art for the feeling body, whereas art is for the perceiving mind. The art form of craft is where these attributes unite into embodied art—a concept spurned in the West, a casualty of our Cartesian culture.
Minimax and Sample Admissible Multivariate Selection Procedures
Bayes and Minimax Sample-Admissible Multivariate Selection Procedures Author(s1991 •
Let IP be a class of independent populations each having an underlying multivariate normal distribution with unknown mean vector. Independent vector samples of common size n are drawn from each population in 9P. We say that a subset G of 9P is 8*-Pareto-optimal (in 9P) if no other population in ?P has the property that each component of its mean vector is larger by at least 5* ' 0 than the corresponding component of the mean vector of any given population in G. This article treats the problem of devising and evaluating strategies for selecting the (unique) subset G of Q? that is 6*-Pareto-optimal. We note that the set G as defined above is unique, nonempty, always exists, and may turn out to be the whole class P. Procedures devised to select the 8*-Pareto-optimal subset of populations are evaluated by means of loss functions that penalize the practitioner for the incorrect exclusion (inclusion) of populations that belong (do not belong) to the set G of 3*-Pareto-optimal populations. Minimax and Bayes procedures in this framework are discussed.

Public health preventive measures and child health behaviours during COVID-19: a cohort study2021 •
Objective The primary objective was to determine the association between public health preventive measures and children’s outdoor time, sleep duration, and screen time during COVID-19. Methods A cohort study using repeated measures of exposures and outcomes was conducted in healthy children (0 to 10 years) through The Applied Research Group for Kids (TARGet Kids!) COVID-19 Study of Children and Families in Toronto, Canada, between April 14 and July 15, 2020. Parents were asked to complete questionnaires about adherence to public health measures and children’s health behaviours. The primary exposure was the average number of days that children practiced public health preventive measures per week. The three outcomes were children’s outdoor time, total screen time, and sleep duration during COVID-19. Linear mixed-effects models were fitted using repeated measures of primary exposure and outcomes. Results This study included 554 observations from 265 children. The mean age of participan...

This paper looks at how years of campaigning by third sector groups may lead to policy promulgated by government, with it is ar-gued, consequences which were unforeseen by those originating the policy ideas. This is explored by taking a historical, case study approach in the areas of drug misuse and youth justice within the UK where the policy origins of both showed similarities, with early campaigning to initiate change resulting in political commitment from incoming political parties. The question asked in this paper is could campaigners have anticipated the policy outcomes at the time they were campaigning? Is it possible to anticipate unintended consequences when formulating policy campaigns?
