Functional redundancy of the duplex telomeric DNA-binding proteins in Arabidopsis2005 •
AtTRP1 is an Arabidopsis protein that binds duplex telomeric DNA in vitro. Here we showed that knock- out of AtTRP1 did not change significantly the telomere length in plant. This implies that either AtTRP1 does not participate in the regulation of telomere length or the Arabidopsis genome contains other genes functionally redun- dant to AtTRP1. Sequence analysis of Arabidopsis genome together with molecular cloning enabled us to identify two additional genes AtTRP3 and AtTRP4 and the corresponding cDNA clones encoding AtTRP1-like proteins. The C-terminal regions of both AtTRP3 and AtTRP4 proteins bind specifically duplex telomeric DNA in vitro. The amino acid sequence of AtTRP4 is identical to that of another Arabidopsis protein TRFL1 except with an internal deletion of six amino acids, suggesting that AtTRP4 and TRFL1 may be derived from the same gene by alternative splicing. This speculation was further confirmed by DNA sequence analysis of RT-PCR products specific for AtTRP4 and...

A Clinical Study of Autologous Bone Marrow Mononuclear Cells for Cerebral Palsy Patients: A New Frontier2015 •
Cerebral palsy is a nonprogressive heterogeneous group of neurological disorders with a growing rate of prevalence. Recently, cellular therapy is emerging as a potential novel treatment strategy for cerebral palsy. The various mechanisms by which cellular therapy works include neuroprotection, immunomodulation, neurorestoration, and neurogenesis. We conducted an open label, nonrandomized study on 40 cases of cerebral palsy with an aim of evaluating the benefit of cellular therapy in combination with rehabilitation. These cases were administered autologous bone marrow mononuclear cells intrathecally. The follow-up was carried out at 1 week, 3 months, and 6 months after the intervention. Adverse events of the treatment were also monitored in this duration. Overall, at six months, 95% of patients showed improvements. The study population was further divided into diplegic, quadriplegic, and miscellaneous group of cerebral palsy. On statistical analysis, a significant association was est...

Labour contracts and stepping-stone effect in Emilia-Romagna: a multinomial analysis2019 •
Do short-term contracts facilitate the transition into permanent contracts? We use a rich administrative database for the Emilia-Romagna northern region in Italy from 2008 to 2012 to run a stepping-stone analysis and evaluate which contractual agreement is more likely to lead to a permanent working position. We find that individual specific characteristics make it more likely for a worker to be employed with a specific contractual agreement and that the contribution towards more working stability varies with the previous contract. We conclude that fixed-term positions act more as stumbling blocks than building blocks for open-ended contracts.
