Ivan Hadjiyski's Anti-Colonial Marxism: A View from Europe's Semi-Periphery2021 •
This text seeks to make a contribution to a more expansive conversation between decolonial and critical theory, by exploring the work of one of Eastern Europe’s least known yet most creative radical intellectuals, Bulgarian anti-colonial Marxist Ivan Hadjiyski. Killed by Nazis on the Eastern front in 1944, Hadjiyski was a major interlocutor in intellectual and political debates around racism, capitalist accumulation, and the differentia specifica of Bulgaria/the Balkans in the late 1930s and early 1940s. After situating Hadjiyski’s life and work in its context of the interwar and World War II periods, the article explores in some detail his early and arguably most popular text titled “Optimistichna teoriyaza nashia narod” (“An Optimistic Theory about Our People”), first published in 1938. More specifically, the text zones in on two prongs of Hadjiyski’s critical argument. The first one examines Hadjiyski’s effort to resignify the meaning of the “Bulgarian people”, in the context of rising nationalism and fascism. The second places Western capitalist modernity under critical scrutiny, in light of its “underside” of colonial violence and predation, and sets it apart from Eastern European modes of primitive accumulation. The article argues that Hadjiyski’s piece represents a genuine contribution to both critical and decolonial thought from the perspective of Eastern Europe, and continues to have important lessons for us in our present moment.
DDoS Attacks Detection in the Application Layer Using Three Level Machine Learning Classification Architecture
DDoS Attacks Detection in the Application Layer Using Three Level Machine Learning Classification Architecture2022 •
Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) is an ever-changing type of attack in cybersecurity, especially with the growing demand for cloud and web services raising a never-ending challenge in the lucrative business. DDoS attacks disrupt users' access to the targeted online services leading to significant business loss. This article presents a threelevel architecture for detecting DDoS attacks at the application layer. The first level is responsible for selecting the best features of the samples and classifying the traffic into either benign or malicious, then the second level consists of a hard voting classifier to identify the type of the DDoS source: UDP, TCP, or Mixed-based. Finally, the last level aligns the attack to the appropriate DDoS type. This approach is validated using the CIC-DDoS2019 dataset, and the time, accuracy score, and precision are used as the model performance metrics. Compared to the existing machine learning (ML) approaches, the proposed architecture reveals substantial improvements in both binary and multiclass classification of application-layer DDoS attacks.

Comparative analysis of cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity in head and neck cancer and carcinoma cervix during concurrent chemoradiotherapy2014 •
Background: Cisplatin is widely used as radio sensitizer in head and neck cancer (HNC) and carcinoma cervix (CaCx). This study aims to see comparative nephrotoxicity of cisplatin in HNC and in CaCx without obstructive uropathy treated by concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT). Materials and Methods: Fifty patients of HNC and 50 patients of CaCx stage II/III without obstructive uropathy were included in this study. Cisplatin 50 mg intravenous weekly was given before EBRT with adequate hydration and premedication in both groups. Before chemotherapy; blood urea, serum creatinine, and glomerular filtration rate (GFR) were measured. GFR was measured using 99m Tc diethylene triamine pentacaetic acid (DTPA) renogram study. Results: At the end of 4 th week, blood urea level 41-45 mg% was in 40 and 4% in HNC and CaCx, respectively (P = 0.018). At the end of 3 rd and 4 th week, blood urea level >45 mg% was 10 and 6% in HNC cases, respectively. At the end of 4 th week, serum creatinine level 1...

Hydrophilic magnetic ionic liquid for magnetic headspace single-drop microextraction of chlorobenzenes prior to thermal desorption-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry2017 •
A new, fast, easy to handle, and environmentally friendly magnetic headspace single-drop microextraction (Mag-HS-SDME) based on a magnetic ionic liquid (MIL) as an extractant solvent is presented. A small drop of the MIL 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tetraisothiocyanatocobaltate(II) ([Emim]2[Co(NCS)4]) is located on one end of a small neodymium magnet to extract nine chlorobenzenes (1,2-dichlorobenzene, 1,3-dichlorobenzene, 1,4-dichlorobenzene, 1,2,3-trichlorobenzene, 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene, 1,3,5-trichlorobenzene, 1,2,3,4-tetrachlorobenzene, 1,2,4,5-tetrachlorobenzene, and pentachlorobenzene) as model analytes from water samples prior to thermal desorption-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry determination. A multivariate optimization strategy was employed to optimize experimental parameters affecting Mag-HS-SDME. The method was evaluated under optimized extraction conditions (i.e., sample volume, 20 mL; MIL volume, 1 μL; extraction time, 10 min; stirring speed, 1500 rpm; and ionic s...
