In this paper the impact of political risk on the movement of stock prices in the capital market of the Republic of Serbia is analysed. This is the market with a short history of trading, characterized by a high degree of volatility, with frequent and high jumps in prices. In addition, it is a very narrow and depth lacking market dominated by share trading in that period; the market where the trading in neither treasury, nor corporate bonds was well-developed. All stipulated above indicates a high degree of correlation between the stock price and the current local political events, with the exception of the financial crisis as a global factor. Serbian political shocks are frequent, unpredictable and well defined, which allows us to clearly identify political risk. We have identified the dates/periods when certain jumps in the volatility of the market index return happened, which were then brought into connection with the occurrence of appropriate political news. In that way we were ...

The recently released Institute for Clinical an Economic Review’s (ICER’s) final evidence report for eculizumab and efgartigimod in myasthenia gravis is one more example of a commitment to the invention of evidence to support pricing and formulary decisions. This is the ICER business model where the practitioners cling to a belief system that rejects the standards of normal science and, more spectacularly, a passionate belief in the mystical ratio properties of ordinal scales that denies the axioms of fundamental measurement. Without these beliefs ICER’s business model would collapse. This is pseudoscience: a collection of beliefs or practices mistakenly regarded as being based on scientific method. Unfortunately there are many who share ICER’s beliefs, including academic research centers and health decision makers who should know better; in this case the University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Pharmacy, Center for Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomic Research who, under ...

In many production environments, a fixed network of capacity is shared flexibly between multiple products with random demands. What is the best way to configure the capacity of the production network and to allocate the available capacity to meet predetermined fill rate requirements? We develop a new approach for network capacity configuration and allocation and characterize the relationship between the capacity of the network and the attainable fill rate levels for the products, taking into account the flexibility structure of the network. This builds on a new randomized allocation mechanism to deliver the desired services. We use this theory to investigate the connection between the flexibility structure and capacity configuration. We provide a new perspective to the well-known phenomenon that “long chain is almost as good as the fully flexible network”: for given target fill rates, the required capacity level in a long-chain network is close to that in a fully flexible network an...
