Objectives: To estimate the frequency of preterm births & low birth weight occurring in union council Jhudo, District Mirpurkhas. To seek association of preterm births & low birth weight with maternal age & parity. Study Design: Descriptive cross sectional. Place and duration of Study: This study was conducted at Union council Jhudo, District Mirpurkhas. From June 2012 to September 2012. Materials and Methods: Three hundred households having a new born of age upto seventy two hours. Subjects were selected through convenience sampling method. Results: Among total of three hundred, the frequency of preterm births was 37 (12.33%); while the frequency of low birth weight was 83 (27.66%). All the preterm babies were low birth weight. There were 121 women (40.33%) at advanced age, among them preterm delivery was recorded in only 17 women (14.04%) (p=0.16). Low birth weight babies were delivered to 31 women at advanced maternal age (25.61%) (p=0.04). Among three hundred recently delivered ...

Modeling the elastic and dynamic influences on the drawing part was and is a major re- search object in many finished and ongoing research projects conducted by the authors. As a result, new simulation models are available which allow for implementing the machine's properties into the process simulation of deep drawing and help to increase its prediction accuracy. A more precisely computed tool surface allows for resource efficient manufacturing since material use, machine hours, work force, and even the number of production tools due to higher potential drawing ratios can be reduced. In particular, proper- ties, advantages and disadvantages of the simulation methods are discussed and the modeling procedures are specified. The potential of the advance forming process models was demonstrated for practical issues from the die spotting stage. Those include predictions of part-specific cylinder forces, virtual die spotting and adjusting the local lubrication on the tool's surface.

Vasarely's ‘nested-squares’ illusion shows that 90° corners can be more salient perceptually than straight edges. On the basis of this illusion we have developed a novel visual illusion, the ‘Alternating Brightness Star’, which shows that sharp corners are more salient than shallow corners (an effect we call ‘corner angle salience variation’) and that the same corner can be perceived as either bright or dark depending on the polarity of the angle (ie whether concave or convex: ‘corner angle brightness reversal’). Here we quantify the perception of corner angle salience variation and corner angle brightness reversal effects in twelve naive human subjects, in a two-alternative forced-choice brightness discrimination task. The results show that sharp corners generate stronger percepts than shallow corners, and that corner gradients appear bright or dark depending on whether the corner is concave or convex. Basic computational models of center – surround receptive fields predict the...

The dynamics of forest recovery after windthrows (i.e., broken or uprooted trees by wind) are poorly understood in tropical forests. The Northwestern Amazon (NWA) is characterized by a higher occurrence of windthrows, greater rainfall, and higher annual tree mortality rates (~2%) than the Central Amazon (CA). We combined forest inventory data from three sites in the Iquitos region of Peru, with recovery periods spanning 2, 12, and 22 years following windthrow events. Study sites and sampling areas were selected by assessing the windthrow severity using remote sensing. At each site, we recorded all trees with a diameter at breast height (DBH) ≥ 10 cm along transects, capturing the range of windthrow severity from old-growth to highly disturbed (mortality > 60%) forest. Across all damage classes, tree density and basal area recovered to >90% of the old-growth values after 20 years. Aboveground biomass (AGB) in old-growth forest was 380 (±156) Mg ha−1. In extremely disturbed area...
