Developing a Virtual Museum for the Ancient Wine Trade in Eastern Mediterranean2017 •
Digital technologies for representing cultural heritage assets of any size are already maturing. Technological progress has greatly enhanced the art of virtual representation and, as a consequence, it is all the more appealing to the general public and especially to younger generations. The game industry has played a significant role towards this end and has led to the development of edutainment applications. The digital workflow implemented for developing such an application is presented in this paper. A virtual museum has been designed and developed, with the intention to convey the history of trade in the Eastern Mediterranean area, focusing on the Aegean Sea and five productive cities-ports, during a period of more than 500 years. Image based modeling methodology was preferred to ensure accuracy and reliability. The setup in the museum environment, the difficulties encountered and the solutions adopted are discussed, while processing of the images and the production and finishin...

In 2014–2016, replicated field trials were performed to evaluate mechanisms of weed suppression in Australian canola genotypes in moderate to low rainfall zones at Wagga Wagga (572 mm) and Condobolin (449 mm) NSW, respectively. In 2015–2016, a split plot design with and without trifluralin as the main plot and cultivar as the sub plot was employed for trials; in this experiment 8 cultivars including hybrid and open-pollinated cultivars were assessed. At each site, crop and weed growth were monitored at various phenological stages including early season, vegetative, grain-filling, harvest and post-harvest. Certain cultivars exhibiting early vigour and also the ability to intercept light due to leaf canopy structure were associated with increased suppression of in-crop weed growth in canola trials; in addition, improved post-harvest weed suppression was associated with the presence of remaining crop residues after harvest. Cultivars GT-50, Hyola 600RR and Hyola 50 were Field evaluatio...

Copper‐Catalyzed Aziridination with Redox‐Active Ligands: Molecular Spin Catalysis2018 •
Small‐molecule catalysts as mimics of biological systems illustrate the chemists’ attempts at emulating the tantalizing abilities displayed by nature's metalloenzymes. Among these innate behaviors, spin multistate reactivity is used by biological systems as it offers thermodynamic leverage towards challenging chemical reactivity but this concept is difficult to translate into the realm of synthetic organometallic catalysis. Here, we report a rare example of molecular spin catalysis involving multistate reactivity in a small‐molecule biomimetic copper catalyst applied to aziridination. This behavior is supported by spin state flexibility enabled by the redox‐active ligand.

The effects of the combustion chamber geometry and a double-row nozzle on the diesel engine emissions2014 •
This paper presents how injector nozzle distributions and the combustion chamber geometry affect the emission characteristics of diesel engines. The number of nozzle holes was increased from seven to 12 by a using double-row nozzle distribution to enhance the air–fuel mixing and the spatial distribution of the spray while avoiding spray overlap. The combustion chamber geometry was modified to have a wide shallow two-step bowl, which ensured adequate spray penetration with the double-row nozzle, to observe the influence of the spray–piston interaction on the combustion and emissions. Three hardware combinations (a seven-hole single-row nozzle with a conventional piston, a 12-hole double-row nozzle with a conventional piston, and a two-step piston) were tested in a single-cylinder direct-injection diesel engine under three boost and exhaust gas recirculation conditions. The injection timing was adjusted to result in a similar power by maintaining 50% of the total fuel mass fraction bu...
